The Sunset City garden was at its most spectacular. Flowers of every color bloomed and cascaded from trees and bushes. Tulips and lilies grew tall above the ground. Willows draped green-budded tendrils over tables and chairs. The people gathered were also decorated in finest of attire, in a variety of spring colors. They were flanked on either side of an alley of grass leading to a gazebo at the end.
It was a glorious wedding. Everyone was in attendance.
The small orchestra at the front of the procession began to play, an Underground bridal tune lilting sweetly from the depths of violins and flutes.
The bride walked down the path, her white gown trailing behind her. At the pedestal stood Sage, beaming with happiness as his lovely Marlena approached him to formally renew their vows.
It had been more than a decade since their original wedding, and Sage relished getting to relive the experience with his wife, under happier circumstances.
Sarah leaned in toward Jareth, where they both stood next to Sage, ready to give away the bride and groom. "I have never seen him so happy," Sarah whispered to Jareth.
Jareth caressed her hand and smiled in reply. She knew he was probably thinking about the day they would be wed. But with a lifetime ahead of them, they had both decided that hurry was not needed. They finally had time to get to know one another, to unravel each other's mysteries and step into a new life at a leisurely pace.
She knew Jareth was sensing her thoughts as he gave her a mischievous look and sent a little magical tingle her way. She blushed at the sensation, but no one seemed to notice as all eyes were fixed on Sage and Marlena as Mandelbrot gave a speech about the duties—and joys—of married life.
